Electronic Journals

All of the electronic journals to which we subscribe should be accessible through MetaLib, including those that offer full-text content. You can search for a journal article by author or title, just as you would any other information, using the search methods explained in this tutorial.

If you see a link in any article's record that says FullText/Links or Full Text Available, you should be able to go on to retrieve the article and read it online.

If you have a citation ...

If you find a citation for a certain article in a syllabus or footnote, there is another way to check and see if the article is accessible online.

You can get to a desired issue of any journal by clicking on Find e-journal from the top menu.

Find the journal you want by typing in its title, or select it from the alphabetical list.

Look for the small symbol under Actions, on the far right edge of the screen. Click on that little symbol.

The SFX dialog box will open, showing you an array of options for accessing this journal. You can click on GO to move directly to the publisher's website for that journal, and have access to all of the available issues that way. Or, you can enter as much citation information as you have in the boxes marked Year, Volume, Issue and Start Page. More accurate information will narrow your results more quickly. But even if you have nothing but the year, enter that and click on GO.

Each publisher designs its own web interface, and we have no control over that; some of the sites are easier to navigate than others. But with a little patience, you can usually click through a few steps to download the particular article you want.

We are expecting a major update of the MetaLib program soon, and some of these methods may change. Please do contact Pam Wells, our Serials Librarian, or Paula Skreslet, our Reference Librarian, for more help.
