Advance booking of media materials

Items can be booked only by RTC students, faculty and staff through the Library catalog. The only formats that can be reserved in advance are DVDs and videos.

If you need a particular video or DVD for use on a certain date, you can organize this ahead of time to make sure it is reserved on that date and no one else can borrow it. You can always arrange this by calling Ann Knox in our Instructional Resource Center. But our catalog also permits authorized users to place their own media booking requests if they wish.

First, LOG IN to our Library's catalog, using your barcode number and Library PIN.

Search for the item you want, limiting your search by material type to DVD or Video Cassette.

Under the Collection Own/Out column, click on Instructional Resource Center. If you have retrieved only one record, click on the All items link. This will take you to the Holdings page.

Click on the Booking link for the item you want to book.

There are only three fields that must have data entered in order to make a booking :

Date From : Enter the date when you intend to pick up the item. (The system automatically adds a day to your use date so we can make sure it is available on the day you need to use it.)

Date To : Enter the date when you intend to return the item. The system will only allow you to book an item for the normal one-week circulation period, or less.

Delivery Location : Choose Main Circulation Desk.

Click on the Go button (between the Item Booking data and the Availability calendar) and you will be presented with a screen confirming the details of your booking. If they are correct, click on the Go button at the bottom of that screen.

The next screen will show the item information and your booking request time blocked off on the Availability calendar. If you have other bookings to make, start the search process again.

IMPORTANT : If you use any browser other than Internet Explorer, you may receive a message (after you have clicked on Go for the second time) indicating that the item is not available during the booking period. This message is usually erroneous. To confirm that the booking has indeed been made, click on My Library Card at the top of the catalog page and check your own account to see if the booking appears there. IF IT DOES, IGNORE THE ERROR MESSAGE. Internet Explorer users will get a message indicating that your booking has been registered.

You will receive a reminder by email on the morning that your booking request is ready. Come and pick up the item at our Circulation Desk.

Please do not use the web booking module if you are within 3 days of wanting to pick up your item. Please call 278-4324 or 278-4317 for help in reserving titles needed quickly.
