Save and repeat a search held in history buffer

If you are involved in a long-term research or writing project (a book or a dissertation, perhaps), you may need to conduct the same carefully-targeted search time after time, as your work progresses. It isn't necessary for you to start from scratch and retrace all of your steps in our catalog every time. You can save your search process and repeat it later with a simple command.

To save this process permanently, you need to login and identify yourself. If you are using the catalog as a Guest, your search will only be saved until the end of your current session. If you are logged in, it will be saved permanently (until you remove it).

Let's say you have conducted a search that satisfies you, perhaps combining several elements as we explained on the previous page.

Look for the heading near the top of the screen that says Previous Searches.

Click in the little box on the left side of the screen to select the search you want to keep. Then, click on Save, near the top of the screen.

In the yellow strip near the top of the screen, you will see the message Search was successfully saved in history buffer. Where is this so-called history buffer? Look again at the headings near the top of the screen.

Click on the word History. You discover that the search you saved is there, with the date you saved it, and the number of records it contained. To repeat the search at any time, just select it by clicking on its little box, and then click on Find. (If you no longer want to retain this information, you can click on Delete.)

Please note that when you click on Find, it will conduct a fresh search using your search language, bringing up everything that fits the description, including any new materials added to the collection since the last time you made that search. You can repeat the search as often as you like, to make sure you are not missing anything newly cataloged on your topic.
