Helping Children Care for God's People

Resource:  Helping Children Care for God's People.

Published by:   Abingdon Press publishes it. The Abingdon Press publishes resources for the United Methodist Church.

Aims and Objectives:

The aims and objectives of the resource material are

1.  To teach elementary and middle school youth about stewardship and missions.

2.  To help them distinguish between the bible and other library books.

3.  To help them know the different authors of the bible.

4.  To help them know and integrate the phrase “inspired by God” into their own words.

Definition of Mission:

The resource defines mission as our response to urging and love. In other words, we act in mission when-

1.  We tell some else about our Sunday School play

2.  We help a friend who is sad

3.  We take a plate of cookies to a sick friend.

Mission, therefore, is not only traveling to a foreign country but also sharing Christ’s love in our community, school, and work places.

Theology of Mission:

Christ commands us in Mt. 28: 19  “… to go and make disciples of all nations…”.  In addition, we are stewards of God’s creation. The resource therefore sees mission as Christ’s challenge to the Church to care for other people.
